Problem: The diffuser vanes were suffering from erosion/corosion. Previous attempts were made to protect them using coal tar epoxies with limited success.

Application Situation
Small hydroelectric plant feeding off an irrigation canal.
Application Method
Application was carried out in accordance with Belzona System Leaflets CEP-3 and CEP-5. Belzona® 1121 was used to smooth out the edges of the vanes to rebuild metal loss. Belzona® 1321 was applied by stiff bristled brush to protect against further erosion/corosion.
Belzona Facts
Alternative was to continue using coal tar epoxy applied every year and to manage the health and safety risks involved due to its make-up. Belzona was chosen for its 100% solids material and safetey and increased service life.
