The first layer of protection used Belzona® 4181 in conjunction with acid resistant tiles. The flange faces were also protected with a lining of Belzona® 4181 composite additionally covered with Belzona® 4341 coating.

Application of the Belzona chemical resistant system allowed the column to be protected in its arduous continual service (360days per year). Inspection in June 2008 showed the Belzona to be in perfect condition.
