Belzona® Trunnion Bearing Housing Repair Saves Money

Application Situation:

Rod Mill trunion bearing housing had significant wear and insufficient downtime for traditional weld/machining repair.

 
 

Problem:

Bearing housing had allowed particulates to pass into housing and caused significant wear. Rod Mill downtime costs 20k per hour.

 
 

Products:

Belzona® 1311 (Ceramic R Metal)

 

Substrate:

Steel

 
 

Application Method:

Application was carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaflet MPT-2. Housing was heated with torch to sweat out oils. The substrate was then blasted to a 2-3 mil profile. Application of the Belzona® 1311 followed to rebuild housing back to OEM specification.

 
 

Belzona Facts:

Welding and Machining would have taken 7-10 days and the cost was $40-60k not including downtime of the mill. Belzona application took 8 hours start to finish and at a significantly lower cost.
