Buildings & Structures (BSTR)

Application:

Roof Problem Areas (RPA)

Customer Location:

Olympic Complex, Algeria

Application Date:

December 2003

Application Situation:

Waterproofing of the Olympic Complex roof.

Problem:

Corrosion and weather damage had caused the 12,000m² roof of the Olympic Complex to leak.

Products:

Belzona® 3111 (Flexible Membrane)

Substrate:

Concrete

Application Method:

Application was carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaflet RPA-1. Firstly the asbestos coating inside the dome was removed. The roof was resurfaced using a cement based screed to provide a good base for the new coating. A fully reinforced Belzona® 3111 system was then applied.

Belzona Facts:

The Application was revisited in 2009. After 6 years in service, there was no deterioration of the roof structure. The coating, although covered in dust following a dust storm, was still in an excellent condition underneath. The coating still provided UV-resistance and was watertight.
