Belzona® Repairs Waste Water Sludge Tanks

Application Situation:

Sludge, Liquor and reception tanks fabricated from glass coated mild steel.

 
 

Problem:

All three tanks were suffering from through wall corrosion at the vapour interface level. The tanks could not be taken off line due to demand and any repairs would have to be carried out without hot works or the use mechanical equipment due to the risk of sparks.

Glass coated mild steel

 
 

Application Method:

The application was carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaflet TCC-3. After cleaning the areas surface preparation by hand abrasion was carried out. Repair plates pre-coated with Belzona® 5831 were cold plate bonded over the through wall defects using Belzona® 1161 finally Belzona® 5831 was applied to the entire repair areas.

 
 

Belzona Facts:

The client had only been able to run the tanks at a reduced capacity of 65% causing increased transportation costs of sludge which the site could no longer process. no other alternative were deemed to provide a viable solution to the customers requirements to keep the site running with minimal disruption and to be carried out without hot works or the use mechanical equipment due to the risk of sparks.
