Problem: During the start-up, the 34inch expansion joints in the flare header started leaking forcing the plant to shut down under this emergency situation.

Application Situation
Gas oil separation plant had a pipe line of nearly 25 years old and the expansion joints started leaking during the start up. Under such circumstances, considering the safety of the plant and personnel, the customer opted to go for the repair and refurbishment of all expansion joints.
Application Method
The application was carried out in accordance with modified Belzona Know-How System Leaflet MPT–06. Rebuilding and machining of sealing faces was carried out with Belzona 4301. Internal coating/non sealing faces were coated with Belzona 4311.
Belzona Facts
All six expansion joints were tested for “Zero leakage” and installed back to the flare header. The expansion joints are working fine to date, without any leaks.
