Novel Use Of Belzona® To Seal Turbine Hall Roof

Application Situation:

Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) Power station. The two gas turbines at this power station have to be removed through the sheet steel roof for overhaul. Individual roof panels have to be removed to allow this to happen. The turbine goes back the same way, and the roof panels are resealed using a Bitumen Flash Band product on the joints.

 
 

Problem:

Each time one of the turbines is removed through the roof, Bitumen Flash Band has to be scraped off (very time-consuming) and replaced. The Flash Band does not lend itself to this type of treatment and waa letting rainwater into the Turbine Hall. The customer wanted a more convenient way of removing and re-sealing the roof panels.

Application was carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaflet RPA-1.

 
 

Belzona Facts:

To allow turbine removal a knife is run down the joints. The joints are easily resealed with a further coat of Belzona 3131 and Reinforcing sheet. Belzona 3131 is easy to apply and lightweight, so procedure can be carried out time and again without detriment to the roof.
