Problem: Severe erosion and pitting of the jet drive transom housings threaten the service life cycle of the equipment and reduce the efficiency of the jet drive system.
Photograph Descriptions
  1. Blasted port transom housing
  2. Mold is in place and the Belzona rebuilding metal is being applied to return the housing to the original dimensions and contours
  3. The completed port transom coated with Belzona 1321. The molded jet drive clearances are perfect
  4. Stern view of the Special Operations Craft and the transoms (covered by tarps)
Application Situation
Erosion and corrosion caused a major loss of metal in the jet drive transom housing.
Application Method
The transom housing was blasted to a near white metal finish. A former was manufactured to mold the critical clearances to 1-2 mm between the removable jet drive and the boat transom housing. Once the rebuilding and molding was completed, two coats of Belzona 1321 were applied.
Belzona Facts
The alternative to the Belzona repair is replacement of the housing. The customers estimates the cost to replace the housing is $50k+ per transom. Since there are 2 transoms to be repaired, it would cost $100k+. Belzona's rebuilding, molding and coating totaled $18,585.
