Problem: Existing caisson had been lined with a glass flake coating, which has since failed. HSE authority have requested for the caisson to be replaced or the rig would have to be shut down. Given the short notice, metal cladding of the caisson was no longer an option. Additionally, the customer would not repeat the same mistake by specifying a glass flake coating again. A key parameter in the material selection was the design life of 35 years. The lining option would have to be robust and remain maintenance-free for a long time.
