Problem: The cone was suffering from severe dry abrasion in the presence of strong concentrations of sulfides. Previously applied rubber coating started to peel, leading to leakages between flange couplings. Leaking corrosive substance in turn attacked the underlying metallic substrate, thus reducing the efficiency and the working life of this component.

Application Situation
Rubber coated pump cone in a desulfurization unit at a fossil power plant. 
Application Method
The application was carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaflet SHM-13. The failed rubber coating was removed, the substrate was then grit blasted and a thick layer of Belzona 1811 was applied to protect the cone from further abrasion damage.

This Belzona solution succeeded where a competitive system had failed. After a year in service, Belzona 1811 is still in a as new condition, to the customer's delight. The Belzona solution effectively enhanced efficiency and the working life of this component.
