Cast Iron Belzona® Grip On Coast

Local Authorities & Municipalities (LOMU)

Floor Problem Areas (FPA)

Customer Location:

Port Authority, Teesside, UK

Application Date:

Application Situation:

Ancient Cast Iron Steps leading down to the breakwater and beach.

These steps had been worn down after decades of use from the public. The polished surfaces were slippery even when dry, and in wet conditions they were treacherous. These steps led to a very popular breakwater and beach, and so access through the day could not be restricted. In addition, there was about to be a major “Big Ships” event, and thousands of visitors were expected to be using these steps. With “Slips & Trips” being the main source of reported injuries in the UK, the client was very conscious of the risks to the public.

Belzona Facts:

Belzona 4411 is a solvent free and self-priming material that can be applied in a single coat. This allowed the application to be done quickly and after an overnight cure the area was reopened to the public. Not a single slip was reported during the popular maritime event which followed. In addition, the Belzona solution continues to offer protection from erosion and corrosion in one of the most exposed area of this coastline.
