Problem: Hundreds of holes in the floor and 8" up walls of the interior of this bulk storage tank. Large holes were visible and straightforward to repair. Small holes and metal porosity plague the entire surface.

Application Situation

A neglected steel oil tank that needed to be put back into service.

Application Method

Belzona 1121 was used to cold plate bond steel over large holes and incorporated into Belzona 9341 cloth for smaller ones. Two coats of Belzona 5811 was used over all surfaces to seal micro porosity.

Belzona Facts

The two alternatives to the Belzona solution were both costly and dangerous on the platform. Total replacement of the bottom and sides would take months of work and lose the ability of oil storage. Overlay welding and grinding was dangerous and could not guarantee the smallest holes would be sealed.
