Belzona® Stops That Sinking Feeling

General Industry (GIND)

Ships and Offshore Structures (SOS)

Customer Location:

Sand Pit Wichita, Kansas

Application Date:

July 2004

Application Situation:

Floating sand dredger

The hull was leaking in several areas of this sand dredge. If the electricity failed when the plant was unattended the vessel could sink into 30 feet of water.

Belzona® 1111 (Super Metal)

Application Method:

Application carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaflet SOS-20. Divers placed magnetic sign material over the leaks. This stopped the flow of water while the surface crew dried, cleaned and prepared the area. Belzona® 1111 with Belzona® Reinforcement Tape was applied to the area.

Belzona Facts:

The only alternatives were to keep pumping water as necessary to prevent sinking or pull the vessel out of the water for conventional repairs. Neither method were acceptable because of loss of revenue and down time.
