Problem:

The chemical plant needed to prevent mercury from entering the ground through the concrete containment. The situation was aggravated by 50% KOH (potassium hydroxide) that was attacking the concrete and expansion joint sealant.

Application Method:

The application was carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How Leaflets TCC-12 and TCC-15.

 
 

Belzona Facts:

Not only was the floor protected from chemical attack, the customer prevented heavy EPA fines and mercury ground contamination.

 
 

Photographs Description

  1. Bridging over expansion joint in accordance with modified Belzona application procedure TCC-12 with Belzona® 2131.  
  2. First coat of Belzona® 5811 applied with Belzona® 9221 (Surefoot Aggregate White) broadcast for non-skid safety system. Application of second coat Belzona® 5811 (tinted red) in progress.  
  3. The completed application, floor and ground protected from chemical degradation and contamination.
