Holed Hydro Turbine Runner Repaired With Belzona

Application Situation:

Hydro Turbine runner with severe erosion damage

 
 

Problem:

Entrained solids and cavitation caused severe damage to the edges of the runner. Holes and pitting are evident on the runner vanes.

Belzona® 1121 (Super XL Metal)

Belzona® 1341 (Supermetalglide)

 

Substrate:

Steel

 
 

Application Method:

Application carried out in accordance with CEP-3 & CEP-5. In-situ blast to near white metal finish, rebuilding to fill pits and holes finally overcoating with two coats Belzona® 1341.

 
 

Belzona Facts:

Runner replacement would be a several million dollar process involving total removal of the generator sets and dismantling of the penstock. It was not an option. Rebuilding and protection with Belzona will prolong service life.
