Problem: Malfunction in the system caused a quantity of 98% Acid to be dropped, followed by a quantity of distilled water. The resultant exothermic reaction was so rapid it stripped the original coating off the concrete substrate throughout the containment area.

Application Situation
Secondary containment for two acid tanks in the water treatment section. The top tank contains 98% Sulphuric Acid that feeds into a lower tank diluted to 10% strength, and used in the water treatment process.
Application Method
Application was carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaflets TCC-9 and TCC-15.
Belzona Facts
No altenative considered since the manager of the plant is very happy with both the Belzona materials and the application by the approved contractor. Belzona coating provides long term protection from 98% Sulphuric acid.
