Belzona® Protects Diffuser Vanes

Application Situation:

Small hydroelectric plant feeding off an irrigation canal.

 
 

Problem:

The diffuser vanes were suffering from erosion/corosion. Previous attempts were made to protect them using coal tar epoxies with limited success.

Belzona® 1321 (Ceramic S Metal)

Belzona® 1121 (Super XL Metal)

Application Method:

Application was carried out in accordance with Belzona System Leaflets CEP-3 and CEP-5. Belzona® 1121 was used to smooth out the edges of the vanes to rebuild metal loss. Belzona® 1321 was applied by stiff bristled brush to protect against further erosion/corosion.

 
 

Belzona Facts:

Alternative was to continue using coal tar epoxy applied every year and to manage the health and safety risks involved due to its make-up. Belzona was chosen for its 100% solids material and safetey and increased service life.
