Problem: Tar epoxy coating had failed especially in vapour phase due to limited chemical resistance against Sulfite solutions. Corrosion had led to more than 1000 holes in roof and leaks in side walls.

Application Situation
10,600 cubic metre waste water tank with inner surface of 3000m² containing waste water from pulp production.
Application Method
Failed coating was removed by ultra-high pressure water jetting and grit blasting. Steel plates were welded in tank to guarantee mechanical integrity. Rebuilding of pitted steelwork carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaflet TCC-5. Coating by heated airless spray in 2 layers.

Resistance of Belzona products had been proven over three years, through leak repairs carried out to keep tank in production. Cost saving as compared to new tank: app. 4.5 million EUR.
