Problem: A new spool had been manufactured to connect the intake pipe to the rest of the cooling water system. During welding, the flange on this spool had become warped and following the subsequent machining was found to be up to 9mm undersized.

Application Situation

Flange on seawater intake pipe of cooling system for nuclear power station

Application Method

The application was carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaflet VPF-13. After applying the Belzona proud, on-site machining was used to achieve correct dimensions.

Belzona Facts

This application follows the successful coating of the pipe internals with Belzona® 1321 in 2006. After 3 years this coating had been found to be in excellent condition, when this problem arose Belzona was the first and obvious choice. Belzona has been used many times to repair damaged flanges. The only alternative available to the client was to prefabricate the spool which represented unacceptable down-time.
