| Belzona® Protects Propulsion Unit On Ferry | | | Industry:Marine (MRNE) | | | Application:Ships and Offshore Structures (SOS) | | | Customer Location:Ferry, Ontario, Canada | | | Application Date:February, 2010 | | | Application Situation:Nozzle of drive unit eroded due to cavitation. | | | Problem:Erosion had worn through nozzle. Welding considered but high risk of distortion and expensive. | | | Products:Belzona® 1311 (Ceramic R Metal)
Belzona® 2141 (ACR Fluid Elastomer) | | | Substrate:Mild Steel | | | Application Method:Application was carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaflets SOS-1 & 2. After grit blasting, Belzona® 1311 was used to replace eroded metal. Belzona® 2141 system was then applied to the nozzle extending the application over both the leading and trailing edges to give maximum protection. | | | Belzona Facts:Welding was an option but cost would have been $5500 and the distortion would have been a problem. Total cost using Belzona system was less than $3800 with no risk of distortion. In addition unit protected from future erosion corrosion. | | | Photographs Description
