Photograph Descriptions
  1. Original Application in 1974
  2. Refurbishment in 1988
  3. Application revisited in 2010
  4. Application revisited in 2010 still in perfect condition
Application Situation
The Mills Observatory is the only full-time public astronomical observatory in the UK. Built in 1935, the Observatory is classically styled in sandstone. The dome is the only surviving Observatory dome in the world made from papier-mâché.
Application Method
A fully reinforced Belzona® 3111 System was originally applied in 1974. Following this original Belzona application, the roof was refurbished in 1988 with a single layer of Belzona® 3111 to assure complete weatherproofing for future years. To provide enhanced appearance Belzona® 5151 was applied in 2003.
Belzona Facts
The application was revisited again in 2010 still showing that the application was in perfect condition. The self cleaning properties of Belzona® 5151 continue to maintain the excellent appearance of the roof.
