Belzona® Seals Oil Leak From Transformer Cable Gland

33kV/11kV Transformer Cable Gland



Due to movement and vibration from the transformer, the lead seal to the cable gland on the blue phase of the 11kV distribution cable had cracked. The cables are oil cooled and oil was leaking through the gland. This had been leaking for many years but due to increased pressure from the Environment Agency on electricity distribution companies to reduce the amount of oil leaked to ground, the Company approached Belzona for assistance.

Application Method:

Application was carried out in accordance with  Belzona Know How System Leaflet VPF-11a. Belzona® 1291 used to stem live leak before over-sealing with Belzona® 1161 to create long term oil tight seal.


Belzona Facts:

The Application formed part of a training session to the Company. After years of oil leaking from the gland, Belzona application stopped the oil leak and without the need for hot works or lengthy shut down. Due to time restraints, the transformer had to be switched into service preventing smooth finishing of the repair.
