Ships and Offshore Structures (SOS)

Customer Location:

Shipping - International car transporter

Application Date:

April 2000

Application Situation:

Becker flap rudder slider bearings.

The original bushes were bronze and had caused galvanic corrosion of the housing within one year, becoming loose.

Belzona® 1321 (Ceramic S-Metal)

Synthetic bearing and steel

Application Method:

The application was carried out in accordance with a modified version of Belzona Know-How System Leaflet SOS-9. Belzona®1321 functions as structural adhesive, support, and coating in this application.

Belzona Facts:

This method significantly reduced the installation time and cost for bearing replacement, and extended the lifetime of the component, by eliminating future galvanic, crevice, or general corrosion from this part of the rudder. Four rudders were repaired in less than a week and Belzona is used from new to prevent these problems.
