Problem: The Andritz Screw Press is used to remove water and thicken the pulp stock.The screw shaft on this machine lost nearly half of its 7/8” wall thickness due to abrasion from the fiber as it is pressed against the screw.

The application was carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaflet SHM-14.
Belzona Facts
The shaft had previously been resurfaced by welding at a cost of $12,000, but only lasted 18-months.The manufacturer recommends that the screw only be welded once and then replaced at a cost of $80,000. After 6 months of service, over 75% of the top 0.040” layer of Belzona was still intact
