Belzona® Repairs Corroded Gas Pipe At Boiler House

Application Situation:

Main gas feed pipe to boiler house at large University building.

 
 

Problem:

Following asbestos removal several years ago, a section of a gas main pipe had been left exposed to water ingress from above and as a result had suffered corrosion and metal loss. The client required a solution that was quick, easy and safe to apply to a live gas pipe,that would replace the metal loss and provide lasting protection from further corrosive attack.

Belzona® 5831 (ST Barrier)

Application Method:

The application was carried out in accordance with a modified version of Belzona Know-How System Leaflet VPF-11. Belzona® 1161 was applied to rebuild and protect the badly corroded section of the pipe followed by a heavy coat of Belzona® 5831 for added corrosion protection.

 
 

Belzona Facts:

Belzona® 1161 and Belzona® 5831 were chosen for their surface tolerant properties. The alternative would have been to remove the corroded section of pipe which would have proved a very lengthy, labour intensive and costly procedure. The Belzona application took approximately 5 hours to complete spread over two days.
