An Uplifting Belzona® Solution

General Industry (GIND)

Tanks and Chemical Containment Areas (TCC)

Customer Location:

Refinery - Brazil

Application Date:

August 2003

Application Situation:

Relocation of two 22-ton riveted storage tanks.

An internal environmental regulation within the company made riveted tanks obsolete for storage of crude oil. As such, the plant was in desperate need of moving these tanks before putting them in service as water storage tanks.

Belzona® 1111 (Super Metal)

Carbon Steel

Application Method:

Application was carried out in accordance with a modified version of Belzona Know-How System Leaflet TCC-3.

Belzona Facts:

The Belzona Technical Consultant, the end-user and an engineering company all became involved in devising the correct procedure with which to move the two tanks. Sixteen metal pads were bonded to each tank. A metal support structure was erected so as to prevent the walls from collapsing. Calculations of the mechanical properties of Belzona® 1111 revealed that by carrying out the application as planned that 420 tons could be supported. This presented a safety margin of approximately 1,170%.
