Belzona® Rebuilds Marine Diesel Engine Block

Application Situation:

Caterpillar diesel engine on passenger ferry.



Cylinders from the port outer main engine were suffering from severe cavitation beyond the original Belzona repair. Belzona has been routinely used to repair these areas for over 10 years.



Belzona® 1311 (Ceramic R Metal)
Belzona® 1391 (Ceramic HT)



Cast iron


Application Method:

Application carried out in accordance with Belzona System Leaflet ENC-6 and engine manufacturers repair procedures. Old repair ground out along with deep pitting. After vacuum blasting area Belzona® 1311 applied to restore profiles. A former was used to create skirt around the cylinder. Area was then flash blasted in preparation for coating with Belzona® 1391.


Belzona Facts:

Belzona® 1311 has a proven track record in repairing cavitation damage in these areas. Belzona® 1391 provides additional resistrance to corrosion and cavitation.
