Belzona® Seals Leaking Cable End Bushing

Power (POWR)

Valves, Pipes and Fittings (VPF)

Customer Location:

Electricity substation, UK

Application Date:

MAY 2013

Application Situation:

Cement joint between porcelain and steel flange had broken down on bushing - Yellow Phase

The yellow phase bushing was leaking oil and the uncontrolled release required sealing to allow further planned maintenance of other transformers in the substation to be carried out. The Client opted for a fast in situ repair as opposed to the possible long lead time of replacement and time required for installation which would cause further disruption to the planned maintenance schedule.

Belzona® 1221(Super E-Metal)
Belzona® 1161(Super UW-Metal)
Belzona® 5831(ST-Barrier)

Porcelain, Cement , Steel

Application Method:

The application was carried out in accordance with Belzona system leaflet VPF-11. After cleaning and abrading the substrate Belzona® 1291 & Belzona® 1221 were used to stem the leak before applying Belzona® 1161 with reinforcement tape. Finally Belzona® 5831 was applied to the repair area.

Belzona Facts:

The steming of the leak was crucial to the client for them to keep within their planned maintenance schedule. The cost comparison of the Belzona solution in time and money was exceptionally competitive compared to replacement. The repair was carried out without the removal of oil and remained under pressure during the application.
