Photograph Descriptions
  1. Corroded pipe wrapped with adhesive tape
  2. Adhesive tape removed showing corroded hole and crack
  3. Corroded area after cleaning and then abrading with MBX Bristle Blaster
  4. Completed repair
Application Situation
A 4” cast iron sewage pipe behind toilets on the 3rd floor started leaking at the point where 4 x pipes connect, causing water damage to the toilet blocks on both floor levels below.
Application Method
Application was carried out in accordance with Belzona Know How System Leaflet VPF-11. After removing the adhesive tape installed by the customer, the corroded and leaking area was cleaned down and then abraded using MBX Bristle Blaster to create a profile, which created a larger hole. This enlarged hole was gradually filled with Belzona 1291 until sealed and then wrapped over with Belzona 1161 incorporating Belzona 9341 (Reinforcing Tape).
Belzona Facts
The customer had been quoted £4000-£4500 for the corroded “cross connector” to be cut out using a grinder (which would be very noisy, time consuming and difficult) and a new part installed. For this expensive solution the toilet blocks on all 4 floor levels would need to be closed for 4-5 days.  Instead, approx. £120 of Belzona materials were used, the repair took 2 hours and all the toilet blocks were back in service within 4 hours of being closed.
