Transformer Bushing Leak Sealed With Belzona

Application Situation:

Two 19 inch diameter bushings on a transformer were leaking oil. The leaks were coming from cracks in four steel support struts.

 
 

Problem:

The leaks were causing an environmental hazard as well as the inconvience of having to top up the oil in the transformers every couple weeks. There was no way of sealing these leaks, welding was not an option due to the environment.

Application Method:

The repair was carried out in accordance with an adapted version of Belzona system Leaflet SOS_1. The leaks were first stemmed using Belzona 9611. Pre blasted plates were then bonded into place around the struts using Belzona 1161, the purpose of these plates was to give the structure back some strength so the cracks in the steel would not propegate. The repairs were then protected with Belzona 5831.

 
 

Belzona Facts:

Replacement of the busing would have taken weeks and cost tens of thousands of pounds. The application was carried out from an access tower over the course of two days so the saving to the client was in time, money & convenience
