BELZONA SOLUTION FOR SPALLED VICTORIAN LINTEL

KHIA ID: 4752
Industry: General Industry (GIND)
Application: WPA-Wall Problem Areas (WPA)
Substrate: Concrete
Customer Location: Shoe manufacturer, South West England
Application Date: October 2013
Products:

Belzona® 4141 (Magma-Build)

Problem: The lintels of the main door and windows had suffered severe deterioration. Carbonation of the concrete had allowed rebar corrosion leading to spalling of the concrete. The Belzona solution was selected due to the materials lightweight, non-porous and high adhesion together with its ability to complete the repair quickly and with minimal disturbance.
Photograph Descriptions
  1. View of the main lintel at initial inspection
  2. Preparation of the main lintel
  3. Application being carried out to the adjacent window lintel showing the corner of the main lintel with the application completed
  4. Close up of the completed application on  the main lintel
Application Situation
A new back-up generator for the site was to be housed in the client’s Victorian boiler house. Vibration from the new generator created a high risk of falling debris from the degraded lintels.
Application Method
The works were carried out in accordance with the Belzona Systems leaflet WPA-4.
Belzona Facts
Due to the age of the building and time constraints, replacement of the lintels was not an option. The Belzona solution was carried out over two days and at a fraction of the cost to replace.
