Photograph Descriptions
  1. 30" diameter effluent line at a petroleum terminal in NJ.
  2. Holes and thin wall revealed.
  3. Applying a second layer of Belzona 1111 over the first wrap.
  4. Two coats of Belzona 5811 was applied over the finished wrap repair.
Application Situation
The 30" diameter effluent line had three separate areas where corrosion and thin wall pipe allowed a large amount of water to pond near an access walk and traffic area. With winter coming, the plant wanted to fix the leaking piping and eliminate the potential safety issues of icy conditions on the access walk and traffic area. Operating pressure is <5 psi. Water would have to be diverted from the piping for repairing three (3) separate areas.
Application Method
Surface was prepared by abrasive blasting to SSPC-SP10 near white. Patches were made to holed areas using Belzona 1111/Belzona 9341 in accordance to a modified version of VPF-11a, Low Pressure. Then Belzona 1111 was applied to the entire outer surface and wrap of Belzona 1971 wetted out Belzona 9371 was applied with a 50% overlap. A second layer of Belzona 1111 was applied along with a second wrap of Belzona 1971/Belzona 9371. It was completed by adding a Belzona 5811 coating.
Belzona Facts
The only other option that was being considered was replacing the piping at a cost that was 3 to 4 times the price of the Belzona repair. Other Belzona repair systems that had been done at the plant gave them confidence that the wrap repair would last.
