Belzona® Coats The Exterior Of An Acid Pump

Mining and Quarrying (MINQ)

Centrifugal Pumps (CEP)

Customer Location:

Mine, Chile

Application Date:

October 2006

Application Situation:

The client required a coating for the pump to protect it from acid spillage and prevent corrosion.

The acid spilt onto the pump, which caused the equipment to be removed from service and the pump did not last as long as the mine wanted to.

Belzona 4311 (Magma CR-1)

Stainless steel

Application Method:

The pump was blasted to white metal to eliminate the acid contained in the substrate. Then, two coats of Belzona 4311 were applied to the external part of the pump.

Belzona Facts:

The client was able to extend the operating time of the pump with the application of the Belzona 4311.  Additionally, the cost to protect the pump was lower than the cost of replacement. As a result, the client requested for all the pumps to be coated.
