Centrifuge Asset Recovery

Industry:

Petrochemical (PETR)

Application:

Centrifugal Pumps (CEP)

Customer Location:

Houston, Texas, USA

Application Date:

July, 2014

Application Situation:

Centrifuge for process with high levels of brine present in the service causing internal, and external corrosion.

Problem:

Corrosion of the internals lead to heavy pitting, and wall thickness of the carbon steel. It also led to the complete disintegration of the external water box and it's mount. The customer only had 4-5 days to make repairs or replace it with a new one. Lead time for a new centrifuge was weeks out, so a Belzona Turnkey application was their best option. The exterior was also protected with Belzona 5811, and 5111.

Products:

Belzona 1111 (Super Metal)

Belzona 9341 (Reinforcement Tape)

Belzona 1321 (Ceramic S-Metal)

Belzona 5811 (Immersion Grade)

Belzona 5111 (Ceramic Cladding)

Substrate:

Carbon steel

Application Method:

The application was carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaflet CEP-3, and CEP-4. The interior pitting was repaired with Belzona 1111, and subsequently coated with Belzona 1321. The exterior was repaired in one area with Belzona 1111 and Belzona 9341, then coated with Belzona 5811 and Belzona 5111.

Belzona Facts:

The Belzona refurbishment method allowed the customer to avoid a lengthy down time, and a $75,000 replacement cost of a new centrifuge. Belzona recovered this asset for the customer for less than $7,500 parts, material, and labor.
