Belzona® Repairs Butterfly Valve Gasket

General Industry (GIND)

Gaskets, Seals and Shims (GSS)

Customer Location:

Application Date:

September 2006

Application Situation:

The customer scheduled a maintenance outage to build the gasket with the Belzona elastomer for the butterfly valve to prevent delay with reinstalling.

The butterfly valve from the main circulating water system of the power plant was removed for maintenance and required a new gasket prior to reinstallation.

Belzona 2131 (D & A Fluid Elastomer)

Cast Iron and Steel

Application Method:

The application was carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaflet GSS-1 using Belzona 2131. After grit blasting the surface, heavy gauge wire was used to form a channel to apply Belzona 2131 to the proper thickness.

Belzona Facts:

The Belzona solution was less than the cost of the OEM gasket, but was chosen more to alleviate the difficulty of positioning the valve back in-line below the surface of the river with a separate, loose gasket which could easily lead to mechanical damage and/or improper sealing.
