Application Situation:

Eroded rudder pintle housing



Bi-metallic corrosion had eroded much of the metal (about ¼ inch) from the rudder pintle housing.



Belzona 1311 (Ceramic R-Metal)

Belzona 1321 (Ceramic S-Metal)



Mild steel


Application Method:

The application was carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaflet SOS-3.


Belzona Facts:

Using Belzona eliminated the need for extensive welding and line boring. The application was completed in less than 12 hours.

  2. Housing coated with Belzona 1321 to increase slip factor.
  3. Rudder in position on horizontal slide partially inserted.
  4. Rudder pintle inserted and allowed to set up before being removed with the aid of a 30 ton hydraulic jack. The reformed bore was inspected by the ships insurers and found to provide almost 100% contact.
