BELZONA RESOLVES THE RUSTY FLANGE FACE
Industry: (LOMU)
Application: CEP-Centrifugal Pumps (CEP)
Substrate: Steel
Customer Location: Spokane Valley, WA, USA
Application Date: October 2014
Products:
Belzona 1341 (Supermetalglide)
Problem: The firetruck pump sits for periods of time without being used. During this time, water sits against the flange face resulting in rust and a poor surface for the o-ring seal to sit against. This results in a lot of leaking water when the pump gets used.
Photograph Descriptions
- Machined flange face
- Opposing flange face with seal
- Surface prepared with MBX Bristle Blaster
- Completed application of Belzona 1341
Application Situation
Flange face on a pump mounted on a firetruck.
Application Method
The application was carried out in accordance with a modified Belzoa Know-How System Leaflet CEP-10. The surface was prepared with MBX Bristle Blaster. Then the first coat was brushed on as usual. The second coat was brushed on and then a 3/4" rigid plastic former was bolted against the face to form a solid, smooth, clean surface.
Belzona Facts
When this flange rusts and begins to leak, the pump has to be taken apart, the flange removed and machined, then re-assembled. This uses both man hours and resources on a regular basis. The amount of Belzona 1341 that was used here was maybe $10.00 USD and will outlast the original method. Good small jobs lead to bigger ones down the road.
