Problem: The original hot applied PTFE Lining required maintenance due to localised disbondment. The plant was facing a long downtime as it was not possible to conduct an in-situ repair of such a lining.  The customer was looking for a solution that was faster and easier to apply.

Application Situation
Reactor operating between 70°C and 80°C at a Polyolefins petrochemical plant. Process fluids included salt, caustic and titanium tetrachloride.
Application Method
The application was carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaflet TCC-5 for protecting and rebuilding steelwork. After grit blasting to SA 2.5, a two-coat system of Belzona 1593 was hand applied to an area of 25 m².
Belzona Facts
Belzona was chosen to replace PTFE as it reduced downtime from weeks to days and was also much easier to apply. Any future mechanical damage will be repairable in-situ.
