Tough And Lasting Belzona® Protection For Pump In Desulfurization Unit

Industry:

Power (POWR)

Application:

Solids Handling Machinery (SHM)

Customer Location:

Power Plant, La Spezia, Italy

Application Date:

December 2014

Application Situation:

Rubber coated pump cone in a desulfurization unit at a fossil power plant.

Problem:

The cone was suffering from severe dry abrasion in the presence of strong concentrations of sulfides. Previously applied rubber coating started to peel, leading to leakages between flange couplings. Leaking corrosive substance in turn attacked the underlying metallic substrate, thus reducing the efficiency and the working life of this component.

Products:

Belzona 1811 (Ceramic Carbide)

Substrate:

Carbon Steel

Application Method:

The application was carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaflet SHM-13. The failed rubber coating was removed, the substrate was then grit blasted and a thick layer of Belzona 1811 was applied to protect the cone from further abrasion damage.
