Problem: Moisture was entering the gap between the steel tank and the fibreglass coating, resulting in corrosion damage and leading to pitting and holes.

Application Situation
Steel diesel tank originally coated in fibreglass in order to protect the metal against sparks.
Application Method
Application was carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaflet TCC-1. The fibreglass coating was grit blasted away. Metal plates were then cold bonded over the defects using Belzona 1121 and the tank then re-coated with GRP, painted black and refitted onto the trains.
Belzona Facts
This solution allowed the company to avoid hot repair weld techniques. Following initial application, Belzona 1121 has been incorporated into the client's specified solution for diesel tank repairs and is now a company approved repair method.
