Belzona® Tackles An Explosive Situation

Application Situation:

The gas supply line for a blast furnace

 
 

Problem:

Pipeline had developed a crack which was leaking gas into the atmosphere. The repair had to be performed live. The intake pipe had a diameter of 2,000mm and had developed a crack 2,500mm long and 2mm wide.

Application Method:

Application was carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaflet VPF-11. To provide an initial seal to the crack, the fast-setting Belzona 1211 was deployed, stopping the leak and eliminating the risk of explosion. This allowed the surface to be prepared, and the substrate was ground to achieve the optimum surface profile. Belzona 1111 was then applied in two layers incorporating Belzona 9341. 

 
 

Belzona Facts:

The Belzona solution bypassed the dangerous gas leak and allowed in-situ repairs without the need for downtime, making this an effective long-term solution to the customer’s problem.
