Belzona® Rejuvinates Aged Asphalt Roof

Power (POWR)

Roof Problem Areas (RPA)

Customer Location:

Power Station, Teesside, UK

Application Date:

Application Situation:

Asphalt roof over plant room.

This aged asphalt roof was cracked in many places and there were several large ponding areas where water would not fall to drains. A much larger pitched roof above it also drained directly onto the asphalt, resulting the roof having to accommodate about six times more water than it was designed for. These problems had led to several leaks being identified in the plant rooms beneath and essential equipment was at risk of being ruined. Environmental and safety considerations mean the client preferred a water based system.

Belzona 3111 (Flexible Membrane)

Application Method:

The application was carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaflets RPA-6 and RPA-8.

Belzona Facts:

The Belzona 3111 is a water based flexible material and has a BBA certificate with an assumed working life of 25 years. In addition, the materials are all cold applied, which was ideal for this site where all hot works are generally prohibited. As the membrane is lightweight, it can be applied directly onto the existing substrates, with no need to remove and renew the asphalt, which in turn greatly reduced the contract costs. The client was delighted with the results and work on further roofs around the site continues.
