Problem: The bottom internal section of the tank was leaking from a previous coating failure which lasted less than two years. The refinery was looking for a longer term solution to protect the tank bottom from corrosion. There was not enough time to replace the bottom.

Application Situation
Base of a storage tank containing crude oil and some medium molecular weight hydrocarbons.
Application Method
New steel plates were welded over the existing through wall defects. The welds and pits were filled with Belzona 1121. Two coats of Belzona 5811 were applied afterwards in two contrasting colors.
Belzona Facts
Belzona lasted over seven years compared to the previous coating, saving from the labor cost and taking the tank out of service three times.
