Problem: The steps had suffered severe damage and spalling caused by weathering, salt and freeze thaw effect. Large cracks and spalled stone were visible making the usage of the steps dangerous.

Application Situation
Four sets of stone steps at a hospital in Ontario Canada with large volume damage require cost effective and time critical repair.
Application Method
The damaged stone was removed back to a firm substrate. Due to the extent of the damage forms were created and Belzona 4154 was mixed with locally sourced aggregate and packed into place. Once cured the forms were removed and 1/4" of Belzona 4131 was applied over the stair treads and risers. To protect from further weathering and salt Belzona 5231 was applied over the steps with a high visibility yellow Belzona 4411 stripe at the edge of the step tread.
Belzona Facts
Each set of steps took between 3 - 4 days to complete. This short timescale compared with traditional option of casting concrete meant that the hospital, its staff and patients experienced the minimal disruption possible.
