Belzona® Seals Valve Leak At Desalination Plant

Application Situation:

 Plug and seat valve was leaking. The valves are constructed from saf 2507 super duplex and carry polished seawater (pH 6.9 Temp 17-26 Deg.C) at an operating pressure of 65 bar.



Due to galvanic and crevice corrosion the sealing faces in a plug and seat valve were corroding due to crevice/galvanic corrosion.

Application Method:

Application was carried out in accordance with Belzona System Leaflet VPF-13. Protective sleeves were placed over all cover studs to protect threads.Blank caps inserted inside liner and located just below area to be repaired preventing any damage whilst grit blasting. A company was commissioned to build a machining jig that allowed  the faces to be machined in-situ and then rebuild with Belzona. Other faces of the valves were able to be removed and built up and machined off-site.


Belzona Facts:

Where other attempts had been unsuccessful Belzona 1111 out-performed everything else. The plug and seat valve was disassembled seven months after the Belzona repair and showed no sign of damage.
