Problem: The stack had been experiencing corrosion issues from the chemicals within the flue gas stream. It was suspected that acids within this stream were condensing on the vertical wall of the stack & causing excessive corrosion around the localized area.Repairs had been attempted in the past by welding mild steel plates to the internals of the stack during shutdowns. This did not solve the problem & the base issue kept occurring year after year.

Application Situation

The stack of the plants CHP (Combined Heat & Power) unit

Application Method

Application was carried out in accordance with Belzona System Leaflet TCC-5. After grit blasting the surface a paste grade Belzona was used to smooth out pitting before applying a two coat system of Belzona 1593.

Belzona Facts

The Belzona solution solved the problem & kept the metal loss from reoccurring. All the work was carried out during a short shutdown.
