| Belzona® Makes Quick Work Of Cleat Repair | | | Industry:General Industry (GIND) | | | Application:Solids Handling Machinery (SHM) | | | Customer Location:Tennessee, USA | | | Application Date:March 2016 | | | Application Situation:A recycling facility needed a way to repair a torn cleat rather than replace the entire belt. | | | Problem:Cleat on conveyor belt used to sort materials at a recycling facility was torn and ineffective. The design of the equipment was allowing the conveyor to become clogged and putting more strain on the cleats than the original vulcanization could handle. | | | Products:Belzona 2311 (SR Elastomer)
Belzona 2911 (Elastomer QD Conditioner)
| | | Substrate:Rubber | | | Application Method:The application was carried out in accordance with modified versions of SHM-1 and SHM-5. The area was cleaned and roughened using the Belzona Roughing (Carding) brush to create a woolly finish. Belzona 2911 was used to condition the surface and the edges were taped to keep the repair within the conditioned area. Belzona 2311 was used to bond the cleat back to the belt and used to repair and flash over the torn areas of the cleat. | | | Belzona Facts:A new belt would have cost the customer thousands of dollars. Hot vulcanization would have cost hundreds of dollars and hour in labor and downtime and most likely not been a permanent solution. The Belzona solution cost less than $75 and was performed at the end of the day so there was no downtime as a result. After nine months the repair is in perfect condition and the customer has found 2311 to be an excellent way to keep small small belt issues from developing into larger ones. | | | Photographs Description1.
