Belzona® Corrosion Protection For Co2 Absorber Tower

Application Situation:

60 metre tall process CO2 absorber tower required corrosion protection



Significant defects of the inner walls and the bottom of the absorber due to  corrosion and erosion in the presence of aggressive chemicals such as MDEA & MEA at elivated temperatures (80-100ºC).

Application Method:

The applications were carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How Leaflet TCC-3. The customer pad welded deeply pitted areas. Less damaged areas were filled and smoothed with Belzona 1311 before coating with Belzona 1391. 


Belzona Facts:

The process tower had worked previously without internal linning until the discovery of major erosion / corrosion defects. The first application of Belzona was carried out in 2014 and the condition was inspected every year. The last  inspection in 2016 has reported no degradation of Belzona linning.
