Problem: The new screw conveyor suffered surprisingly fast wear by erosion and bi-metallic corrosion. The shaft of the screw conveyor had been topped with a stainless steel sheet to protect it from corrosion. However, after less than a year of operation the steel was worn from the surface of the shaft. In addition to the aggression of chemical sludge, it reaches a very high temperature of approx. 120 degrees Celsius.

Application Situation

Sludge screw conveyor.

Application Method

The application was carried out in accordance with Belzona System leaflet SHM-14. The surface of the shaft was blasted and Belzona 9811 tiles were bonded to the surface of the shaft using Belzona 1511. The tiles were grouted using Belzona 1813.

Belzona Facts

The Belzona solution eliminated the problem of galvanic corrosion and increased the durability of the screw conveyor. With Belzona the life time is three times longer than the original solution.
