Problem: The Ministry of Environmental Protection in China required VOC treatment to be implemented on all oil tanks across the country This required the customer to attach pipe rigs to the tank wall. With Hot work restricted in the tank farm, a cold bonding solution was therefore the chosen option.

Application Situation

Installation of new VOC treatment pipe rigs onto oil tanks.

Application Method

The application was carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaflet TCC-6 and VPF-15. To ensure optimum bond whilst observing the safety requirements in the tank farm, surface preparation was conducted using water jet blasting equipment.

Belzona Facts

The conventional attachment by welding required hot work and all the tanks should be cleaned first, which is not only time consuming but also expensive (cost between £40,000 to £100,000). Belzona cold bonding technology avoids hot work and tank cleaning. The application is completed on site within two days per tank. The customer considers Belzona's cold bonding as the most cost effective solution. Due to the succuess of the first 18 tanks, there will be more than 200 tanks to be upgraded in this region and more tanks in other regions.
